PGBV has basic units of administrative office, classrooms and auditoria for common use, from Instituto de Biologia Roberto Alcantara Gomes – IBRAG and Instituto de Química – IQ. These units are located within Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro – UERJ Maracanã Campus.

For field courses, dissertation and thesis projects accomplished in Ilha Grande – Angra dos Reis/RJ, PGBV is supported by Centro de Estudos Ambientais e Desenvolvimento Sustentável – CEADS/UERJ, which offers classrooms, study rooms, an auditorium, a library, accommodation, a cafeteria, field work equipment and labs equipped for triage and initial processing of plant material.

PGBV activities are performed in a network of seventeen labs, with equipments, lab supplies and staff directly connected to the faculty, located at UERJ and:

  • Fundação Oswaldo Cruz – Fiocruz
  • Instituto de Pesquisas Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro – JBRJ
  • Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro – UENF
  • Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro – UFRJ
  • Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro – UFRRJ

The support of a network of UERJ libraries – Rede Sirius is fundamental to teaching and technical-scientific activities and, therefore, to student formation in PGBV. The Rede Sirius offers a diverse collection, where it is possible to obtaining titles in Biology, Medicine, Pharmacy, Botany, Environment and related subjects. Besides the invaluable scientific and historical collection, which includes from rare publications to up-to-date electronic collection, Rede Sirius provides both in person and in online browsing of the collection; support to research, such as detection of plagiarism; guidelines to presentations of dissertations and theses; and preparation of catalog cards.

PGBV is associated to two herbaria in UERJ, located at Campus Maracanã, that support teaching, research and extension activities: Herbário Bradeanum – HB and Herbário da Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro – HRJ, which does national and international interchanges through loans, permutations and donations of plant material. Professors and students of PGBV add plant material of their projects to these collections.

PGBV is also supported by two live plant collections from UERJ: Parque Botânico do Ecomuseu Ilha Grande – PaB/ECOMIG, with an area of 22.000 m², a production house and a greenhouse for acclimatation of seedlings from the Atlantic Rainforest, and an area for classes related to plant production and cultivation; and Horto Botânico da UERJ, with an area of 4.000 m², currently in restructuring to accomodate a referenced collection of medicinal plants, that also produce seedlings and carry out biotechnological experiments with medicinal plants.

Each student of PGBV has an institutional account – ID Único UERJ for access scientific databases and internet by Wi-Fi UERJ or Eduroam. Among the services provided is the access to scientific databases: CAPES Journals, Sucupira Plataform, PubMed, Taylor & Francis Online, Scielo and other scientific collections.
