The PGBV was created in June 2008 and had its first admission process for Master’s degree in January 2009. In 2010, our Doctoral programme was approved and its first admission process was in August 2011.
Our mission is to meet the formation of human resources to work in Conservation and Utilization of Biodiversity, through advanced research of biological and evolutionary processes, dealing with social-environmental problems and prognostics for future planning and management.
This mission is fulfilled by objectives related to the formation and training of graduated professionals for technical-scientific research, teaching and service provision, in many demands of the society, and both public and private sectors, related to Botany in its many contexts:

- Chemistry, Pharmacology and Analysis of Natural Products

The formation of human resources and research in an international context is one of the goals of PGBV, with international cooperation projects supported by both national and international research funding agencies, and with student and faculty activities in foreign institutions of scientific and/or technological development, including Project Coordination, Sandwich Doctorate and Postdoctoral Research.
